  1. Take your staff members to lunch individually and ask them about their lives. Listen to them. Understand their needs and struggles. Ask them about their families, marriages, and kids.
  2. Make a point to encourage personal advocates for each other. Assess truthfully whether the environment you work in is a safe place for mistakes. Are you a second chance leader and what is it like to be on the other side of you?
  3. Share openly about the importance of operating and living with character. Communicate both successes and failures. Blow up perfectionism and legalism. Encourage transparency and a confession culture.
